About

A smart friend who happens
to know about AI.

That's the whole brief, really. This isn't a course, a startup, or a newsletter empire. It's one person, in one small town, trying to be useful to his friends and neighbours.

Myk Masuku

Who runs this

Hello, I'm Myk.

I use Claude every day. Writing, planning, tidying up side projects, untangling a confusing spreadsheet -- the small useful stuff that adds up to a lot of saved evenings.

I live in Berkhamsted. My day job is in product and AI -- I run Myk Kym, where I advise founders and operators on product strategy and AI operations. Fifteen years of building things across three continents.

I started AI for Normies because I kept having the same conversation at the school gates, at the pub, at a client's kitchen table. People were curious, a bit nervous, and put off by how everything about AI is written. So I thought I'd write it differently -- in plain English, for people who are good at their jobs and just want to know what this thing can actually do for them.

Why this exists

Most AI writing treats you like you're either an engineer or an idiot.

You are, of course, neither. You're a person with a job, a family, a handful of things you're quietly brilliant at, and a growing sense that this stuff might matter for your work. You don't need a lecture on transformer architectures. You also don't need a patronising list of ten prompts to "unlock productivity."

You need someone to sit next to you for a bit, show you what it actually looks like, and answer your questions without making you feel silly for asking. That's what I'd like this to be.

What you won't find here

Three promises, in the form of absences.

--

Jargon

No "leveraging the latest LLM paradigm." No "agentic workflows." If I use a term of art, I'll explain it, once, in a sentence a normal person would actually say.

--

Code

Nothing here requires you to install anything, set anything up, or type into a black window. A browser and an email address is all you'll ever need.

--

Panic

No "AI will replace you by Tuesday." No "you're already behind." AI is a tool. It's useful. You have plenty of time. Breathe.

The goal is that in a year's time, you forget this thing ever felt intimidating. That you use it like you use a calculator, or a good mechanic.
